Edmund: The main reason we decided to go to High Point was because of COVID. We wanted to ensure the safety of our children. And also, Michael has autism to some extent, and we weren’t sure how easy it would be to get a para at our local high school.
I maybe was a little surprised at how many different ways they tried to have students connect with one another or connect with the teachers. I thought it might be a little bit . . . I mean coming . . . It’s been a long time since I’ve been in school, so I thought it was . . . I expected to be more dry and so they’re trying to be engaging.
Michael: Well, I can work from home, which is really nice so I don’t have to get up, like, really early, relatively early in the morning. I can get up when I want. And I was… few class connect sessions and spend a lot of time working on homework. It was a really flexible schedule. Like I can’t, I don’t have to work on biology for this hour and geometry for this hour and history for that hour. I like work for biology for this amount of time I want. Like what do I want to do next? Oh, maybe I’ll do geometry and do geometry.
Edmund: I am delighted with Michael’s focus on getting his homework done and getting his classwork done. Sometimes he might not know he’s got an assignment. Sometimes, you know, things get lost in the shuffle. But if he knows he has homework, he really wants to do it and he, you know, he . . . we have . . . he has arguments with his sister when she wants to play and he says, and I have to do homework, it’s not that I don’t want to play, because then she gets upset. But he says, “I’ve got a lot of homework to do,” and I’m absolutely delighted with the level of responsibility he’s shown.
