Ever since she was a young girl, Michayla Cain dreamed of being a pilot. After graduating from Arizona Virtual Academy (AZVA), she is one step closer to her goal.
Michayla comes from a family of pilots. By attending an online school, she has been able to complete her studies and spend more time traveling with them.
“My family has always traveled and when I was in brick-and-mortar school, traveling was only for break time,” she explained. “But since I joined AZVA we have been able to go anytime, as long as there is WIFI. One thing that I love so much about AZVA is that as long as you have your computer and WIFI you can get your education from anywhere.”
Michayla also credits her school with teaching her the skills she will need to succeed. “The science projects that I did in high school will help me with my Aeronautical Science degree, because it gave me knowledge of topics that I need to know to be a pilot,” she said. “The assignments that I did on weather gave me knowledge, which has still stuck with me today, and I will take with me as I get my Aeronautical Science degree and will use it while in flight training.”
Michayla values the experiences she had, and the memories made in her time at AZVA. She learned to be self-motivated in her studies and enhanced her communication skills through interacting with educators and students alike. She also found that there were many opportunities for socialization.
“Even though AZVA is a virtual school, I feel like I have had many opportunities presented to me to engage with other students. There are many different events that the school holds to get students to engage with each other, such as clubs and hangout sessions. The school also has in person events quite often where you can meet other students and interact.”
Post-graduation, Michayla plans to attend flight school and complete a degree in Aeronautical Science. She looks forward to becoming the first female pilot in her family and eventually becoming a commercial pilot.
As Michayla’s future career takes flight, she knows that her time with AZVA gave her the skills she needed to aim high.
