Esports Teaches Socialization Skills And Business Management Concepts

Hello, I am Carter, and I have been in a Stride K12-powered school for 12 years. I’ve actually been a part of online classes since the first grade. One of the best parts of my school experience has certainly been Esports. If you don’t know about Esports at all, then I’ll make is simple… Esports are competitive video games. I’ve personally played competitive Fortnite, but “Esports” is a general term used to describe any competitive video game.
I joined the team that I play on during my sophomore year, and I am so happy I made that choice. I’ve had the opportunity to be the Varsity Fortnite Captain the same year that I joined. And, the best part of Esports has been the people that I’ve have met and, by extension, the friends that I have made along the way.
Before I joined the Esports team, I played a lot of video games, but I never had anyone to play with in a social environment. Joining the team immediately provided me with people to play with, but more than that, I built friendships over time. I built connections with people from all over my home state. And, I have even met some of them in person. I talk to most of my teammates daily, even now.
Another great part of my Esports experience has been being the Team Captain. I want to go into Business Management after graduation, and being a Captain is great experience for a future manager. I have to talk to teammates, set up practices, make rosters, and keep the team focused. That is a lot of real-world experience as a manager, and it’s also a great thing to have on my resume. In addition, I’m quickly improving my communication skills because I have to be able to professionally communicate with all of my teammates and coaches.
Esports has helped with my overall work ethic, as well. We play in a very competitive league, so being at your best via consistent practicing and teamwork strategies are vitally important. I must work hard to keep up, and I can take that work ethic and further transfer it to both school and career ventures. There’s also a content creation component inherent in Esports, as we have a team of people helping to create videos, streaming, and posts on social media. It is a wonderful environment in which I get to play a key part.
I am now in my senior year of high school, and I know I am going to miss playing Esports once I graduate. From my perspective, being in games is a feeling like no other… you are nervous but calm, and winning is an absolutely amazing feeling! Plus, losing makes you want to try even harder. Esports has been such a help to me, whether it’s been through meeting people, competing directly, working to get better, or managing a team. It has given me stability, experience, and people that I can rely on in my life. I would not be where I am today without Esports and my team.
