For over twenty years now, students in many states across the country have had the opportunity to receive a quality education completely online. This is something that families in West Virginia have desperately needed and now, beginning this fall, will finally have access to through West Virginia Virtual Academy.
Virtual learning is an excellent opportunity for students who may have unique, individualized learning styles to customize their education. Our methods of teaching and delivery allow families far greater control over when and how their children learn with consistent, direct engagement from parents. This isn’t just sitting in a Zoom meeting for eight hours a day – we will provide proven curriculum and learning methods to support excellent learning outcomes for every student.
In addition, an online school is a great place for older students to participate in career pathway programs that could set them up for incredible, good-paying jobs right after graduation or college. Imagine having the flexibility to have an internship with a local business in the morning and then instruction at home in the afternoon related to the same subject – that is possible only with virtual learning. This presents a fantastic opportunity for not only students but also employers who know how critically important it is to further develop West Virginia’s workforce.
Above all else, WVVA is a school driven, engineered and designed by West Virginia instructors for West Virginia students. We’re excited to be teaming up with Stride, an education management team that has helped teach over 2 million students since 2000. Their results, frankly, have been incredible and we are excited that they will be a part of the team providing a quality education for our kids.
For decades, we have built a fence around West Virginia education and believed that a one-size-fits-all approach was the best we could provide for our kids. It is past time to tear down that barrier – let’s use a proven education system, in collaboration with local West Virginia teachers, administrators and board members, to expand the horizons of our students and provide a unique, quality learning experience that will prepare them for their future.
