The Hallsville ISD Board of Trustees recently accepted a total donation of $5,000 from the Kilgore College Foundation to be used for the 2023-24 academic year dual credit programs.
At a school board meeting on Nov. 16, the Hallsville ISD Board of Trustees acknowledged the presentation of two gifted donations in the amount of $2,500 each. The first donation was given to Hallsville ISD, and the second was given to the Texas Virtual Academy of Hallsville. These gifts were provided by the Martin Luther King Jr. Dual Credit Scholarship Breakfast hosted by the Kilgore College Foundation.
“Last week Mr. Martin attended the Kilgore College Foundation banquet for dual credit programs, and each of our high schools — brick and mortar as well as TVAH (Texas Virtual Academy of Hallsville) — were awarded a check for $2,500 from that foundation,” explained Hallsville ISD Chief Financial Officer Mary Brown at the school board meeting.
Since 2018, the Kilgore College Foundation has hosted a special Dual Credit Scholarship Breakfast fundraiser each January where all proceeds go towards financial support for dual credit programs across the East Texas area. The scholarships are used to help students fulfill high school graduation requirements and college courses, assisting their transition into college students.
The Kilgore College Foundation is a 501©(3) support organization which provides financial support for programs, activities, services, scholarships, and capital improvement initiatives for Kilgore College. It is governed through independent volunteers who make up the board of directors. The foundation was established in 1994 and has expanded into 326 scholarship endowments with an estimated market value of over $25 million.
