RESTON, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Does your student have groundbreaking ideas to help save local or global wildlife ecosystems? K12 is inviting students nationwide to bring their most innovative solutions to the table as part of the 2024 K12 Innovation Challenge.
The Innovation Challenge, part of K12’s Student Enrichment Programs, is open to all K-12 students in the U.S., no matter where they attend school. Students can participate individually, with a partner, or in a team of three.
“The future of our planet depends on the innovations we make today. That’s why we’re excited to announce the launch of the National Innovation Challenge, where we are challenging the brightest minds across the country to develop breakthrough solutions that will build a more sustainable world. Together, through creativity and collaboration, we can write the next chapter of environmental innovation in America and drive progress towards a thriving planetary future,” said Karen Ghidotti, Senior Vice President of Customer Experience and Advocacy at K12, a division of Stride, Inc.
This year’s challenge is looking for innovative solutions for safeguarding the delicate ecosystems of wildlife within students’ local communities or on a global scale within one of the following themes:
- Habitat Restoration
- Ocean Vitality
- Future Farm
- Endangered Species
- Animal Welfare & Rescue
- Community Engagement
Middle school and high school semi-finalists will have the opportunity to present their proposals in person at the K12 headquarters in Reston, Virginia while competing for exciting prizes, including a student trip with the Ecology Project. Elementary school finalists will be able to choose between three prize packages valued at over $250 each. And a People’s Choice Award will be presented to the team in each grade division with the most votes from the public.
Entries will be judged on their:
- Environmental impact and theme alignment
- Creativity, innovation, presentation, collaboration, and passion
- Implementation and viability
- Community engagement and impact
K12 Enrichment Programs help students in grades K-12 ignite diverse interests and encourage them to learn new skills, build a portfolio of creative work, and foster long-lasting friendships and connections. Other available enrichment programs include national art competitions, cookoffs, robotics, creative storytelling through photography, and more.
