Three siblings from Brush, Colorado Preparatory Academy students Osmar, Nalany, and Leilany, placed in their school’s virtual Gingerbread House Contest, showcasing creativity and holiday spirit. The contest connected online learners across Colorado, with students submitting photos of their festive creations during winter break. Judged on creativity, design, and holiday spirit, the winners were recognized in elementary, middle, and high school categories.
Columbia Local and Carolus Online Academy teacher Heather Evans received the Superintendent’s Challenge Coin for her exceptional impact on students and staff. Sixteen-year-old Quinn Derheimer discovered speed skating after trying hockey, inspired by his sister. Noticed for his speed, he quickly rose in the sport, competing internationally and aiming for the 2034 Winter Olympics. Quinn trains intensely in Milwaukee, balancing early mornings, double practices, and online schooling through Indiana Gateway Digital Academy. His family fully supports him, volunteering and prioritizing his goals. Quinn emphasizes dedication, perseverance, and passion as keys to achieving his Olympic dream.
