LITTLETON, Colo. — The end of the school year is near, which means students are enjoying those precious last moments with their friends. While things like prom are a given for traditional high schools, three Colorado online public schools are giving their students an opportunity to savor those moments too.
Close to 175 online learning students from cities across Colorado will come together this weekend for an in-person prom. Colorado Preparatory Academy, Pikes Peak online school, and Destinations Career Academy of Colorado are joining together to host an in-person prom for students to get a chance to meet each other, some for the first time. Some students host coffee meetings once a month in their region to get acquainted with each other, but in its 5th year of existence community engagement specialist, Amy Baranco is thrilled about the growth of this event.
Baranco stated, “It’s really exciting to see that happen, that our school community is growing, our culture is strong with our students and our students feel comfortable even though they’re schooling at home to come together and so its super fun to watch it grow.”
The prom will be held in Littleton. Organizers planned dozens of activities and ice breakers for students to make everlasting memories before graduation.
